Quote of the Week

R. T. France reminds us that it was Jesus who invented this Christological method of interpretation.  Therefore, those who speak against a redemptive-historical perspective of Scripture and all its implications need to be more careful with their words because they speak not against us, but Christ and his perspective of the Old Testament.

The source of the distinctive Christian use of the Old Testament was not the creative thinking of the primitive community, but that of its founder.  It was not the early church which inscribed its theology on the blank cheque of its Master’s teaching, but Jesus whose teaching and life initiated that theology. (France, Jesus and the Old Testament, 226)
