Quote of the Week

Paul Williamson in his book, Sealed with an Oath, reminds us how crucial the already-not-yet perspective is for understanding the covenant promises of God.

Ultimately, the prospect held out by Jeremiah and the other Old Testament prophets is eschatological in nature.  True, we see it already fulfilled now in part, but only in part.  Simply put, the best is yet to come.  The prophetic hopes still await a more comprehensive and glorious fulfillment when Jesus returns.  The restoration hope held out in Jeremiah and the prophets was not exhausted by the repatriation of the Jews after the Babylonian exile, but neither is it exhausted in the first coming of Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. (Williamson, Sealed with an Oath, 208-209)
