Covenant and Salvation: Union with Christ

Michael Horton’s third book of his covenant series is due out in August.  Check it out here.

His two previous books in this series are:

Covenant and Eschatology and Lord and Servant

These books are not light reading, but if you are able to work through them they prove very informative and helpful.

I haven’t read them yet, but what is your take on Horton and the covenants given that he is a paedobaptist? I always struggle through covenant theology because infant baptism always seems to rear it’s head.

Horton does hold to Covenant Theology (see his new book “God of Promise”), but his books in this series are not books about Covenant Theology per se. While he works from that framework (i.e., covenant) his books are so much more. Horton seeks to establish a certain understanding for theological formulation and interacts with past and present thinkers (e.g., post-reformers, Enlightnment, postmodernism, etc) that is very comprehensive. The reading is quite thick, but very rewarding. Prior to reading this series I viewed Horton as a “popular writer” (i.e., more mainstream than scholarly), but after reading these books I changed my views of him and was very impressed by his scholarship.
