Old Testament Survey Recommendation

I am not sure how many people are aware of this book, but Gareth Crossley’s book, The Old Testament Explained and Applied does an excellent job providing an overview of the entire Old Testament.  However, the real positive to this book is that it takes each book of the Old Testament and discusses in detail how it is fulfilled in Christ and his church.  Crossley writes in the introduction.

This is an overview of the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament.  It is not intended to be an exhaustive study.  Aids to more detailed Bible study will be suggested along the way.  The objective of this book is to present a glimpse of the contents of each Old Testament book so that the overall plan and purpose of God might be clearly perceived.  The overall theme of God’s revelation needs to be kept in mind.  The controlling thought for the whole Old Testament is preparation for the coming Messiah, the Son of God. (p. 15, 17)

I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for a good survey on the Old Testament that is traditional in its approach (e.g., author, dating, setting, content), but also provides theological and redemptive connections to the New Testament.
