Rethinking Church

The church is too focused on the church. There can’t be the urgency in missions because the mission would be to convince people that our church is the right church rather than to believe in Jesus. And the love is missing from the church because everyone is wondering how devoted you are to the church itself. Everyone is looking for you to do or say something that proves you are not a slave to the church (i.e. to the denominational distinctives). If the church was actually focused on the message of Christ (which it cannot be and never will be) then and only then would things be right. But if the church focused on Christ’s message, it would not be able to accept much of Romans 3-11, and there’s the rub. The church chose Paul and the intstitutional church over Jesus, and it refuses to admit its mistake.
